How to Recognize a Safe Friend

Safe Voices Checklist

A safe friend is not just someone who takes your side. She is someone who both accepts you where you are and points you toward truth. Use this checklist to evaluate who has earned a voice in your healing journey.

They listen without judgment – You feel heard, not dismissed.
They respect your boundaries – They don’t pressure or guilt you.
They keep your confidence – What you share stays safe.
They point you back to truth – With grace, they remind you who you are in Christ.
They don’t fuel bitterness – They comfort without encouraging you to stay stuck.
They encourage growth – They lovingly challenge unhealthy patterns.
They show consistency – Their actions match their words.

Red flags (not safe): Gossip, dismissing your pain, minimizing betrayal, fueling anger without direction, or making the situation about themselves.
